Marin Cilic from Croatia defeated world ranked No. 10 Janko Tipsarevic 6-3, 3-6 and 6-3 in the finals St. Petersburg Open 2011. The 22nd-ranked, takes time for 2 hours and 17 minutes to end the Serb fight that is trying to perform at Barclay’s ATP World Tour final next month.

Marin Cilic won his first title of the season and the sixth of his career, broke in the sixth game of the first set. Tipsarevic, who won his second career title in Moscow last week, broke early in the second set to level. After splitting the first two sets, Cilic took command in the third set, breaking the World No. 13 twice to win the final four games. The Croat improved to 6-1 against Tipsarevic, and avenged his loss to the Serbian at the Sony Ericsson Open this year.

Tipsarevic was bidding to become the first player to pull off the Russian double, after topping countryman Viktor Troicki in Moscow last week in the first All-Serbian final. Ranked 10th in the South African Airways 2011 ATP Year-To-Date Rankings, Tipsarevic dropped to a 2-5 mark in ATP World Tour finals.
