Novak Djokovic Cruised Into the Swiss Indoors Basel Quarter-Finals

After failing to appear in Shanghai last month because of injury, ranked No.1 tennis player Novak Djokovic appear convincing in Swiss Indoors Basel one of the ATP World Tour 500 series this week.

Escaped from X Malisse in the match 3 sets in the first round, in the second round the Serbian easily beat a qualifier Lukasz Kubot 6-1, 6-2 in the game for 55 minutes on Thursday.

Djokovic has won three titles of the four Grand Slam championships this year, will be challenged by the United States tennis player Andy Rodick in the quarter-finals. This seventh seed in the second round beating Radek Stepanek 2-6, 6-3 and 6-3.

“It’s great to play well again,” said Djokovic, who had been tested by Xavier Malisse on Tuesday in his first match since returning from a lower back injury. “I think I did play well at the start of the first match, and then I had big ups and down throughout the match. I had a lot of unforced errors and double faults at important moments, but it was kind of expected because it was the first match after six weeks after a big injury – probably the biggest in my career. Today is another story. I felt good on the court and I’m happy to go through.”

He improved to a 66-3 match record on the season (42-2 on hard courts) and to 11-1 lifetime in Basel, an ATP World Tour 500 indoor tennis tournament. Djokovic has won 10 of his 28 tour-level titles this year.
