Davis Cup Final 1st Day Result: Spain Leads Argentina 2-0

Day one result

Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer, managed to give victory to the Spanish team so they are ahead 2-0 over Argentina on the first day of Davis Cup finals. In the first game, Rafael Nadal gave four-time champion Spain a 1-0 lead against Argentina in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Final on Friday after the World No. 2 beat Juan Monaco 6-1, 6-1, 6-2, in two hours and 26 minutes, in Seville.

“It was a very solid match from myself. I think I played great the first two sets, without mistakes,” Nadal said. “For me, it’s a big victory and I’m happy to score the first point for my country.”

Monaco, who dropped to a 5-7 record in singles rubbers for Argentina (5-2 on clay), committed 35 unforced errors and won seven of 13 points at the net.

“I felt like I was playing well but, frankly, it’s Rafa Nadal,” said Monaco. “From the very first moment he was solid, and he always recovered with his positioning. With any other player, the point ends much sooner. He didn’t give me any chances.”

In the next game, World No. 5 Ferrer backed up Nadal’s win over Juan Monaco earlier in the day, with a hard-fought 6-2, 6-7(2), 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro in four hours and 45 minutes. It improved his unbeaten record in clay-court singles rubbers to 12-0. He is 17-4 overall for Spain. “Today I played one of the best matches of my career. I’m very happy as it’s in the final of the Davis Cup and it’s very important to us,” Ferrer said in an on-court interview. “Now I want to relax and enjoy this moment. I will see how the doubles goes tomorrow and if we lose, I will be prepared for Sunday.”
